Dual Credit Classes
(College Credit)

Dual credit classes offer students the opportunity to earn college credit while simultaneously earning high school credit.  Currently, Midlakes participates in the Advanced Placement (AP) Program, the Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) Gemini Program, the Monroe Community College (MCC) Dual Credit Program, and the Syracuse University SUPA Program.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT
Students may earn college credit through the AP program by taking an AP exam in May.  The test is scored on a scale of 1-5.  The granting of credit is determined by each receiving college or university, so students should check with the schools they are interested in to determine the needed score.  Midlakes currently offers the following AP classes:

  • AP Biology
  • AP Calculus
  • AP English Language
  • AP English Literature
  • AP United States History
  • AP World History

FINGER LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Students may earn college credit through the Gemini Program by registering with FLCC at the beginning of each course.  There is currently no tuition cost for Gemini courses, but there is a $5 per credit registration fee ($15 per course).

Students earn credit by completing the course, and their grade and credit for the college-level course will be reflected on an FLCC transcript.  The transfer of those credits is determined by the receiving college or university, so students should check with the schools they are interested in to determine if the credits will transfer.  Students must contact FLCC directly to have their transcript sent to the college or university they will be attending.  If they will be attending FLCC, they do not need to request a transcript.

Gemini credit is available for the following courses:

  • Consumer Economics/Personal Finance (Fall Semester)
  • Eating for Fitness (Fall Semester)
  • Gemini US Government (Fall Semester)
  • Psychology (Fall Semester)
  • French IV (Fall & Spring Semester)
  • Spanish IV (Fall & Spring Semester)
  • AP English Language (Spring Semester)
  • AP English Literature (Spring Semester)
  • Computer Applications II (Spring Semester)
  • Gemini Economics (Spring Semester)
  • Sociology (Spring Semester)

Representatives from FLCC will be at Midlakes on 9/30/2015 during B & C lunches to complete registration paperwork with the students.  For students who are unable to register at that time, all paperwork must be submitted to FLCC prior to 10/9/2015.

MONROE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Students who are looking to earn college credit through the MCC Dual Credit Program must register for the course directly with the teacher.  Currently MHS offers MCC college credit for CAD Design & Software I (MET 101: Technical Graphics (3 credits)) and Drafting - Architectural I (CIT 112: CAD for Construction (2 credits)).

Students complete the registration process in-class with the teacher.

SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY
Students who are looking to earn college credit through the SUPA Program must register directly with Syracuse University.  Currently the only MHS class that is offered for Syracuse University college credit is Probability & Statistics.  Students earn college credit for MAT 221: Elementary Probability & Statistics I (during the fall semester) and MAT 222: Elementary Probability & Statistics II (during the spring semester).  The cost for 2015-2016 is $112 per credit-hour for a total cost of $336 per semester and $672 for both courses.

Students complete the registration process in-class with the teacher.
